NYC, Queens-based Mexican-American artist
As a born and raised native bilingual New Yorker, I explore working-class daily life in the city, Mexican-American culture and identity, and family history through my vibrantly detailed multilayered paper illustrations of the different MTA subway car models, old and new storefronts and of street scenes. Drawing inspiration from Mexican papel picado and the accessibility of paper, I am able to showcase places, people and moments in immigrant communities and the local history.
A lot of my work also includes writing in Spanish, whether it's the title or caption or in the piece itself. While it is a colonial language, living and working in multicultural and multilingual spaces is how i experience the everyday.
As an artist, I am also expanding my work and experimenting with creating zines and linoleum based printing.
Note: anti-immigration, anti-lgbtq, anti-black, and anti-working class rhetoric and sentiments are not welcome.
nothing exists in a vacuum, as such, art is inherently political and i aim to share the experiences of, uplift, and support these communities as well as ones i am not personally part of.
